Thomas Bourdeleau = Mike Peca + 2021 Cole Sillinger

In Time Machine on Tracking the Draft, former NHL GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN Craig Button tells a story regarding a past player and the NHL Draft while relating it to a player in this year's draft prospect pool. They could be Top 40 or beyond on the Craig's List.

Thomas Bordeleau is a player who pays attention to the details in the game and makes sure when he jumps over the boards he doesn't miss anything. A hard guy to play against, just like a 2002 Olympic Champion in Mike Peca. Meanwhile we jumped ahead to take a look at Cole Sillinger, up for the 2021 draft. The Medicine Hat Tiger scored a bunch as a 16 year old and could be a draft riser next year.

Brendan Brisson is #22 on Craig's List and Button took a trip back in time to compare him to a guy taken just outside of the first round who has a Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup on his mantle. Brisson has had a chance to model his game after actual stars he meets as his father is NHL super agent Pat Brisson. We also raced ahead to look at the 2021 draft with Zachary L'Heureux who was a big piece of a QMJHL trade last year and will be a centrepiece in Halifax next year.

Brandon Wheat King forward Ridly Greig isn't always the biggest dog in the fight, but he never backs down from one. Craig says while he has plenty of smarts and will, don't underestimate his skill level and we discussed a few other former Brandon Wheat Kings Ridly compares too. We jumped ahead to 2021 where Craig told a terrific story about how Zachary Bolduc ended up in Rimouski, it's really cool. Will there be a drop off next year when Alexis Lafreniere is a New York Ranger?

Episode 9 - 4 September 2020

Tyson Foerster = Corey Perry + 2021 Simon Edvinsson

In Time Machine on Tracking the Draft, former NHL GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN CraigButton tells a story regarding a past player and the NHL Draft while relating it to a player in this year's draft prospect pool. They could be Top 40 or beyond on the Craig's List.

Tyson Foerster is a sniper from the Barrie Colts and while he gets a lot of hype for his left side face off dot set up on the PP set up, he can score from just about anywhere. In the slot, with a deke or on the rush. He can also pass the puck really well and set up teammates, but doesn't get enough credit for that. For Craig that sounds a lot like Corey Perry who Anaheim took 28th overall in the 2003 draft - for some the best ever. Craig has Tyson ranked 15th, but who knows on draft day, he might slip and some team will get a gift fall in their lap they weren't expecting. FYI, the Ducks also picked up Getzlaf in the 03 draft. Perry by the way is a member of the Triple Gold Club - Olympics, World Championship and World Junior Championship.

As for the 2021 draft, we jumped ahead in time to chat about Swedish rearguard Simon Edvinsson who is one of many back end prospects in his draft class. He's big and skates really well which brings to mind Victor Hedman for Craig.

Joni Jurmo = Esa Lindell + 2021 Aatu Raty (part 2)

In Time Machine on Tracking the Draft, former NHL GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN CraigButton tells a story regarding a past player and the NHL Draft while relating it to a player in this year's draft prospect pool. They could be Top 40 or beyond on the Craig's List.

We were honoured to have the Head European Scout for Dobber Prospects, Jokke Nevalainen join us this week. Craig went back to 2012 when Esa Lindell was taken by the Dallas Stars and compared him to Joni Jurmo a fellow Finnish defenceman. Jokke and Craig debated the comparison and we went forward in time to look at Aatu Raty, who might end up being the first Finnish player taken first overall! Listen here

Episode 7 - 21 August 2020

Lukas Cormier = Torey Krug + 2021Dylan Guenter

In Time Machine Craig is looking at a two time Stanley Cup champion who was a second round pick 9 years ago with a sharp shooting left winger from Finland. TSN's Director of Scouting sees some of Brandon Saad in Roby Jarventie when it comes to dependability and the ability to play with really skilled players. As for the 2021 look ahead we discussed defenceman Owen Power which produced a comparison to former Hart and Norris Trophy winner Chris Pronger. Power could challenge Aatu Raty for the top pick next year. Listen here

Evan Vierling - Christian Dvorak + 2021 Sneak Peak Aatu Raty

Time Machine is where the Director of Scouting for TSN Craig Button takes us back in time to compare a player from the past to this year's draft as well as taking us into the future and discussing a player for the 2021 draft. Craig described Evan Vierling as a player similar to Christian Dvorak who might not have received as much attention as his former London Knights teammates Mitch Marner and Brady Tkachuk but was ultra skilled in his OHL days. Vierling seemed to really improve after an early season trade from Flint to Barrie. We also looked into the future at the top dog for the 2021 draft Aatu Raty.  Listen here

Episode 4 - 26 July 2020

Jere Lehtinen - Luke Evangelista

Craig Button is the Director of Scouting for TSN and joins Dean Millard each week for Tracking the Draft.

In Time Machine Craig tells a story regarding a past player and the NHL Draft while relating it to a player in this year's draft prospect pool. Jere Lehtinen won 3 Selke Awards and was the key cog on the great Stars teams of the 90's. So much so that Mike Modano would be upset if he was taken off his line at times. Luke Evangelista of the London Knights has similar characteristics according to Craig. He can play anywhere in the line up and with anyone.

Marty Turco/Nico Daws

In Time Machine on Tracking the Draft, former GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN Craig Button tells a story regarding a past player and the NHL Draft while relating it to a player in this year's draft prospect pool. Craig took us back to the 1994 NHL Draft. There were some pretty big swings and misses in the first round (Edmonton Oilers I'm looking in your direction) but the Dallas Stars hit a home run in the 5th round taking goaltender Marty Turco. He won 275 games and twice led the league in GAA and save percentage while with the Stars. Turco's confidence had Craig thinking about Guelph Storm goaltender Nico Daws. Listen here
