In Top Shelf Talent on Tracking the Draft, former NHL GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN, Craig Button and Dean Millard discuss players who are projected to go in the first round, choosing from the Top 40 on the Craig's List. Alexander Holtz is a Swedish winger who can line up at either wing and can score goals. However Craig warns he's not 'one trick pony' as he uses his hockey IQ to contribute in a lot of other areas. Also, while he's ranked 13 on Craig's List, he wouldn't be shocked to see him go 5th or 6th overall.

Episode 10 - 10 September 2020Jack Quinn

In Top Shelf Talent on Tracking the Draft, former NHL GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN Craig Button and Dean Millard discuss players who are projected to go in the first round, choosing from the Top 40 on the Craig's List.

Jack Quinn of the Ottawa 67s is the top goal scorer in the draft according to Craig and when you get a look at his game it's not hard to see why. His anticipation skills are off the charts, whether it's getting in behind the defence or following up on a play and getting a tap in. He scored more than 50 goals this year in Ottawa and also had almost 40 assists so don't overlook his play making abilities. I asked Craig about any problem areas in his game and the answer makes you wonder why other scouting platforms don't have him rated as high as Craig.

Episode 9 - 4 September 2020Jamie Drysdale

In Top Shelf Talent on Tracking the Draft, former NHL GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN Craig Button and Dean Millard discuss players who are projected to go in the first round, choosing from the Top 40 on the Craig's List.

It's hard to nail down exactly what Jamie Drysdale does best because the Erie defenceman does everything so well. He's one of the best skaters in the draft, he's dangerous with and without the puck and if you forget about him in the offensive zone you can expect to be fishing the puck out of your net. He has top pairing #1 dman potential, so that means he has to produce offensively and Craig explains how he will do that using a Hall of Fame former Dallas Star as a reference.

Episode 8 - 28 August 2020Anton Lundell

In Top Shelf Talent on Tracking the Draft, former NHL GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN Craig Button and Dean Millard discuss players who are projected to go in the first round, choosing from the Top 40 on the Craig's List.

The Head of European scouting for Dobber Prospects Jokke Nevalainen joined us this week as we discussed Anton Lundell. A 'safe' pick who wore a letter for HIFK in the Liiga this year and might have more offence than some think? Both Craig and Jokke had interesting comparisons for him at the next level.

Episode 7 - 21 August 2020Quinton Byfield

In Top Shelf Talent on Tracking the Draft, former NHL GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN Craig Button and Dean Millard discuss players who are projected to go in the first round, choosing from the Top 40 on the Craig's List. Quinton Byfield is the 3rd ranked player on the list and Craig described how big or small the gap is between Byfield and Stutzle. He also cautioned strongly against judging Byfield foley on his World Junior Championship tournament as you will be 'making a big mistake'. Byfield has man size and is very strong, tough to handle when standing still and even tougher when he gets a head of steam going. We also paid tribute to another Top Shelf Talent from the early 80s as Dale Hawerchuk lost his battle with cancer this week, a more humble superstar might be hard to find.

Episode 6 - 13 August 2020Alexis Lafreniere

With the 'Lafreniere Lottery' now over and Alexis Lafreniere's destination known (unless a trade happens) it was time to feature the Top Dog on Top Shelf Talent.  The left winger who is the two time reigning CHL Player of the Year is ranked #1 on Craig's List and we discussed how he matches up with recent first overall picks and the specifics of his game, plus how he fits in on Broadway.

Episode 5 - 06 August 2020Dawson Mercer

Top Shelf Talent features players ranked in the top 40 on the Craig's List from TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button. Dawson Mercer is ranked 17th by Craig and was on his way to a terrific offensive season before Covid19 cancelled the CHL campaign. He played a role for Canada at the WJC and when he returned to Chicoutimi picked up the offensive pace he set pre tournament. He rose up the ranks as the season went on and was nominated as the 'Personality of the Year' in the QMJHL.

In Top Shelf Talent on Tracking the Draft, former GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN, Craig Button and I discuss players who are projected to go in the first round, choosing from the Top 40 on Craig's List

Cole Perfetti is one of the smartest, if not the smartest player in the draft. His 37 goals and 111 points was 2nd in the OHL and he scored 37 as as rookie.

Episode 3 - 16 July 2020 - Tim Stutzle

In Top Shelf Talent on Tracking the Draft, former GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN, Craig Button and I discuss players who are projected to go in the first round, choosing from the Top 40 on Craig's List. This week we look at Tim Stutzle, ranked #2 on Craig's List

His numbers, while constantly playing with older players are better than what Leon Draisaitl put up at the same ages and I asked Craig what impact Stutzle would have had it he played in the WHL this year.

Episode 2 - 10 July 2020 - Yaroslav Askarov

In Top Shelf Talent on Tracking the Draft, former GM and current Director of Scouting for TSNCraig Button and I discuss players who are projected to go in the first round, choosing from the Top 40 on Craig's List.

Yaroslav Askarov is the best goalie prospect since Carey Price according to Craig, will be follow Price and also be a top 5 pick? His international resume is awfully good, and like most young players he did struggle at the WJC, but it was how he rebounded from the outing that has Craig excited for his franchise potential. Episode 1 - 2 July 2020 - Jake Sanderson

In Top Shelf Talent on Tracking the Draft, former NHL GM and current Director of Scouting for TSN, Craig Button and I discuss players ranked on Craig's List in the top 40.

Jake Sanderson ranked 12th on Craig's List, is considered by most to be the second defenceman off the the board, but when will that be? We discuss his most talked about asset, his skating and what he might look like at the NHL, especially with some added offence. A HOF Dean came up in comparison IF the offensive production comes through.Listen here
